Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated 29 April 2026.

1. What an affiliate link is

An “affiliate link” is a link to a third-party retailer (for example, a telescope vendor) that includes a tracking code identifying Astronube as the referrer. If you click the link and later buy something, the retailer pays Astronube a small commission. You pay exactly the same price either way — the commission is paid by the retailer out of their margin, not added to your bill.

2. Why we may add them

Astronube is free, no account is required, and we run no advertising or tracking. Affiliate commission on gear we already recommend is a way to help cover hosting and the API costs behind features like AI advice, without changing what we recommend or how we recommend it.

3. Editorial independence

This is the rule that matters most to us, and to you:

4. How disclosure will appear

When we add affiliate links, we will disclose them clearly and visibly:

Disclosure will be in plain English, never hidden behind a hover, never in a colour with poor contrast, and never below the fold of the page that contains the link.

5. No paid placements without disclosure

Astronube does not accept payment to recommend a product or place a link. If that ever changes — for example, a sponsored post on a specific topic — the page will be labelled “Sponsored” or “Paid partnership” at the top, and the relationship will be described in plain language.

6. Programmes we may join

Programmes that fit Astronube’s scope and that we may apply to in the future include retailers that sell smart telescopes (such as Dwarflab), specialist optical retailers (such as First Light Optics in the UK or OPT in the US), and general retailers that stock astronomy gear (such as Amazon). This list is illustrative, not a commitment.

7. What you can do

8. Data and privacy

Affiliate links are plain HTML links to third-party sites. Once you click one, the destination site’s own privacy policy applies — we do not control what they collect. Astronube itself does not log which links you click, set tracking cookies, or share your data with affiliate partners. The full data picture is on the Privacy page.

9. Right to remove links

We reserve the right to remove an affiliate link or leave a programme at any time, including if a retailer’s product quality, customer service, or business practices fall below the standard we want to be associated with. Existing recommendations may be replaced with non-affiliate links or removed entirely.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy materially — for example, when we actually start using affiliate links — we will update the “Last updated” date at the top and post a brief note in the site footer for at least two weeks. Minor wording or formatting changes will be made silently.

11. Contact
